Waukee school administrators have improperly used procurement cards, spent large sums of money on out-of-state retreats and violated district policies without consequences, according to an investigation by the state auditor, the Des Moines Register reported The report, released today by Auditor Mary Mosiman, found the district made at least $130,244.98 in improper payments “not in the best interest of taxpayers” over a four-year period, including at restaurants in the Des Moines area and on furniture for the superintendent’s office. It also identified a culture of mistrust between employees and administrators in the Waukee Community School District and cites a failure of fiduciary responsibility by board members.
