Bank of America has expanded its Student Leaders program to Iowa, and this summer two high school students from Des Moines are participating. The students, North High School junior Ruth Bropleh and Joanna Espitia, a North High senior, are working in paid summer internships at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Iowa and Urban Dreams. They also joined 300 youth leaders from across the country on an annual leadership summit in Washington, D.C., held earlier this month. Across the country this summer, Bank of America is investing more than $4 million to support nearly 3,000 summer jobs for teens through various initiatives, with a particular focus on young people from low-income families. “Investing in youth and young adults is part of our broader commitment to connect individuals to the training and jobs needed for success, ultimately strengthening our community,” said Heidi Parkhurst, Iowa market president for Bank of America. “We are thrilled to bring the Student Leader opportunity to Iowa.”
