Barilla announced Friday that it is planning a $26.8 million expansion at its Ames plant, KCCI Channel 8 reported. The expansion will add two new production lines to the plant, including a gluten-free pasta line. Company officials said construction is expected to start in March and be complete by October. The project, which was awarded $765,090 in tax credits by the Iowa Economic Development Authority Friday, will create 23 new jobs. Company officials said the gluten-free pasta produced in Ames will be shipped to Canada, Brazil, Mexico and Australia, as well as locations across the U.S.
