The Urbandale Community School District recently welcomed Steve Bass, who began July 1 as superintendent of the school district. Bass, who previously served as superintendent of the Osage Community School District for six years, was selected for the position by the school board in March. He replaces Doug Stilwell, who retired after working as superintendent since 2010. “One of my passions is to see students excel inside and outside the classroom,” Basssaid in a release. “The more we can engage and involve our students, the more likely they are to be active participants in the learning process.” Bass and his wife, Karla, recently moved to Urbandale. They have two sons: Seth, who works for Nationwide in Des Moines, and Ethan, who will begin his teaching career in the Garner-Hayfield-Ventura Community Schools this fall.
