Bicycles, recycling and rain barrels, oh my!
This weekend’s 80/35 Music Festival will be greener than ever, organizers say. Working with Urban Ambassadors, a Greater Des Moines sustainability group, the annual event has partnered with numerous organizations to make the festival more environmentally friendly. One of the main components of this effort will be the availability of recycling bins provided by the city of Des Moines curbside recycling program next to trash containers throughout the festival site in Western Gateway Park. On Sunday, attendees will be able to visit the Green Zone, a free area located next to the Dahl’s Kids Zone on 13th Street that will feature local organizations specializing in sustainability. Patrons are encouraged to ride their bikes to the festival and park in the bike valet, a special section of the festival grounds that will be monitored by volunteers all day to guarantee security. Regular advance tickets are on sale for $60 two-day, $35 one-day, and $150 VIP at http://midwestix.com. Day-of-show tickets will sell $40 per day.
