Iowa State University has named the next department chair for one of its most popular undergraduate majors. Li-Shan Chou, a professor of biomechanics and department head of human physiology and director of the Motion Analysis Laboratory at the University of Oregon, was selected as the next chair of the department of kinesiology. A Taiwan native, Chou has bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees in mechanical engineering, and was a researcher at the University of Chicago and Mayo Clinic before joining the University of Oregon in 2000. Chou, whose appointment will begin in July 2019, will succeed Phil Martin, who has chaired the department since 2008. Martin will continue as chair for the next year until Chou begins his appointment. Kinesiology has the third-largest undergraduate student enrollment on the Iowa State campus, enrolling about 1,200 students. The department has about 30 full-time and 20 part-time faculty members.
