The city of Bondurant has been awarded a $125,000 grant to make improvements to Eagle Park as part of the ICON Water Trails initiative that includes more than 80 projects connecting 150 miles of waterways in Central Iowa. It’s the first grant awarded from the MidAmerican Energy Regional Fund, a $5 million investment to develop ICON Water Trails projects outside of Des Moines. The grant award was announced today by the Great Outdoors Foundation. The money will be used to add access to Mud Creek, install stormwater treatment cells, solar-power charging benches, native plantings, a butterfly garden, limestone walking trails, trees and signage. Bondurant Mayor Doug Elrod said the project “will enhance the quality of life for Bondurant residents and be a regional asset for park users for decades.” Hannah Inman, CEO of the Great Outdoors Foundation, said MidAmerican’s investment “embodies the regional spirit of the project.” Regional ICON partners can apply for grants from the fund twice a year. Applications for the next round of grants from the MidAmerican Regional Fund will open this fall.
