The Iowa Economic Development Authority has named Boone and Indianola as the newest Main Street Iowa communities. They join 51 other Main Street Iowa communities across the state, according to a news release. Indianola aims to use the downtown revitalization program to position the community as a small-town alternative to Des Moines. Boone hopes to add or renovate upper-story housing to meet residential demand and create short-term rentals for tourists. Main Street Iowa accepts a limited number of new communities every two years. Applicants must demonstrate local support and investment, a downtown district with the potential for growth, and readiness to implement the Main Street approach to revitalization and economic development.
