Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Iowa set a new fundraising record, raising nearly $5 million during its annual celebration earlier this month. According to officials with the organization, the fundraising was supported by a surprise $4 million gift by Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Iowa trustee and event co-chair Suzie Glazer Burt, who made the donation in memory of her late sister and long-time club supporter, Ellie Glazer Ziegler. More than 500 people came together on Nov. 17 at Drake University’s Knapp Center to celebrate club members, founders, their families and community supporters. It marked the organization’s 60th anniversary. “[It] was a testament to the incredible vision of our founders 60 years ago and the lasting impact they have within Des Moines,” said Tony Timm, Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Iowa CEO. “Our mission would not be possible without the dedicated support and kindness of this community.”
