Catholic Diocese can’t find funds for college preparatory school
The Catholic Diocese of Des Moines has placed an effort to raise funds for a Christo Rey college preparatory school on “indefinite hold.” Using a federal grant, the diocese launched a study in September 2009 to determine whether it could raise $20 million needed to support the school, which would have focused on low-income students. “Christo Rey Des Moines is unable to go forward because of the inability to identify sufficient philanthropic support,” according to the study’s executive summary. The diocese had received commitments for between $4 million and $5 million. Click here for a related story.
