Des Moines-based Ruan Transportation Management Systems has announced the promotion of Steve Chapman from chief operating officer to president and chief executive officer.

Chapman, 59, was the CEO of ITAGroup Inc. for 15 years.He joined the board of Ruan Cos. in 2007 and became COO in 2009. He also serves as chairman of the board of directors of ITAGroup and Mercy Medical Center and on the boards of Per Mar Security Services, United Way of Central Iowa and the Greater Des Moines Partnership.

John Ruan III will continue to serve as chairman and CEO of Ruan Financial Corp., the holding company of Ruan Transportation, and of BTC Financial Corp., the holding company for Bankers Trust Co.
