City approves funding for Anawim housing project
The Des Moines City Council last week approved a $1.7 million loan to Anawim Housing, to be used for the construction of 16 housing units just east of the Drake University campus in a partnership with Hubbell Realty Co.
The loan will consist of $960,000 in Community Development Block Grant – Disaster Relief funds, $534,290 in Neighborhood Stabilization Program funds and $215,710 from the HOME Investment Trust Fund.
Anawim and Hubbell plan to build two eight-unit buildings in the neighborhood of Forest Avenue and 23rd Street on parcels previously acquired by the city. The property was conveyed to Anawim in September.
