Coleman named chairman of Convention and Visitors Bureau board

The Greater Des Moines Convention and Visitors Bureau (GDMCVB) last week announced its new board of directors and officers. Chris Coleman, president of the local Better Business Bureau and a member of the Des Moines City Council, will serve as chairman through June 2012.

Also serving on the executive committee: Vice chair – Paul Rottenberg, Orchestrate Management & Associates; secretary/treasurer – Rick Messerschmidt; immediate past chair – Terry McLane; at-large member – Paula Dierenfeld.

The board members are Grimes Mayor Tom Armstrong; Urbandale Mayor Bob Andeweg; Altoona Mayor Tim Burget; Clive Mayor Scott Cirksena; Pleasant Hill Mayor Jason Dively; Perry Mayor Jay Pattee; Windsor Heights Mayor Jerry Sullivan; Ankeny Mayor Steve Van Oort; Polk County Supervisor Angela Connolly; West Des Moines City Council member Jim Sandager; Ann Atkin, director of operations at Prairie Meadows Racetrack and Casino; Drake University Athletic Director Sandy Hatfield Clubb; Matt Homan, general manager of the Iowa Events Center; Libby Jacobs of The Jacobs Group; Tom Murray, general manager at Country Inn & Suites; Art Slusark, Meredith Corp. vice president of communications; and Kirk Tyler, president of Atlantic Bottling Co.
