Company drops quest to export northeast Iowa water
Cedar Rapids Gazette: A northeast Iowa mining company has ended its effort to get state permission to draw millions of gallons of water from Iowa’s Jordan Aquifer to export to Western states. Pattison Sand Co. of Clayton notified officials at the Iowa Department of Inspections and Appeals that it was requesting to dismiss its appeal of a state Department of Natural Resources decision that denied its permit application. State Administrative Law Judge Joseph Ferrentino agreed to dismiss the appeal Sept. 23 after Iowa DNR attorneys did not object to the motion to dismiss.
