Conference to focus on public health, environmental effects of animal production

107 wordsAg and Environment, All Latest News, Health and WellnessA new book, “Industrial Farm Animal Production, the Environment, and Public Health,” will be the topic of a two-day conference hosted by the Harkin Institute this month. According to a news release, the conference’s aim is to highlight the “serious risks posed to environmental and human health by current farming systems and to examine local and national strategies for moving towards a system that prioritizes health and well-being.” The conference is Sept. 25 and 26 at Parents Hall in Olmsted Center at Drake University, 2875 University Ave. in Des Moines. Johns Hopkins Center for a Livable Future is co-hosting the event, which is part of the Iowa Environmental Council’s Iowa Environmental Education Week.
