UnityPoint Health-Des Moines announced that Joe Corfits, senior vice president of finance and chief financial officer, will retire effective April 28. Corfits has been a member of the senior leadership team at UnityPoint Health-Des Moines for 20 years. He began his career as an accountant with Iowa Methodist Medical Center nearly 40 years ago. During his career, Corfits has held many positions in the finance department and has been responsible for overall financial management of the Central Iowa region of UnityPoint Health including four hospitals, a foundation and a property holding company. Among his accomplishments, he was integrally involved in the planning, development and financing for Methodist West Hospital in West Des Moines; oversaw the development of five joint ventures with physician partners and multiple co-management arrangements with physicians; and was a leader in the innovation fund that invests in health care innovation companies. Corfits served as president of the Iowa chapter of the Healthcare Financial Management Association and was a former board member on the national board for HFMA.
