Cownie named director of cultural affairs
Gov.-elect Terry Branstad today named Mary Cownie as the director of the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs for his administration.
Cownie was born and raised in Des Moines before serving in the Office of Presidential Advance at the White House under President George W. Bush.
She returned to Iowa in 2007 as communications director for the Republican Party of Iowa, and recently launched Goldfinch Strategies.
The Department of Cultural Affairs is an organization charged with developing the state’s interest in arts and cultural matters.
