A specialized contractor has begun work to remove the log jam accumulating near the confluence of the Raccoon and Des Moines Rivers. The log jam formed on a sandbar occurring in the Raccoon River just before it empties into the Des Moines River. Meredith Trail is closed from the Southwest First Street Bridge to the Fifth Street Bridge until the log jam removal is completed.
