D-Line to downgrade service amid spending cuts

The Des Moines Area Regional Transit Authority (DART) will shorten its D-Line route as proposed legislation threatens to cut state funding for the service. The downtown shuttle will continue to operate on its east-west route on Grand Avenue and Locust Street between Western Gateway Park and the East Village. But starting March 14, the trolley will no longer run to and from the state Capitol. The Iowa House of Representatives and Senate have already passed legislation that would decrease state funding for the service, including money previously committed for the current fiscal year, and Gov. Terry Branstad is expected to sign the bill into law. On March 10, DART will hold a public hearing regarding the service change in Room 116 of the Capitol.
