The program has donated 23 retired vehicles from DART’s ride-sharing program to 20 organizations since 2014, a news release said. The vans have been awarded to Camp Fire Heart of Iowa, a youth development organization connecting kids with nature, and Des Moines Refugee Support, an organization helping refugee families as they establish new lives in Iowa. Due to changes in the federal Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, recipients are now responsible for covering the federal interest associated with the awarded van, the release said. “We hope the vans enhance the positive impact these organizations have in our community by ensuring people have transportation to access opportunities that support healthy, thriving lives,” Erin Hockman, chief strategy officer at DART, said in a prepared statement.
