Des Moines Area Regional Transit Authority has launched its DART on Demand microtransit service in Ankeny. The new pilot project offers on-demand service that a customer can schedule in real time or in advance. It picks a customer up at their location and takes them to a destination in a designated zone in Ankeny. Trips can be booked in the new DART on Demand app or by calling DART customer service. DART on Demand will operate from 6 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Rides are $1 for a limited time. There are no eligibility requirements, and the service is available to the public. DART on Demand is DART’s first foray into microtransit. It replaces the Ankeny On Call service, and allows DART to serve riders with app-enabled technology, on-demand scheduling and expanded hours of operation. “Ankeny is a growing community with an increased need for local transit, as well as connections to the regional transit system,” Chief Planning Officer Luis Montoya said in a news release. “DART On Demand aims to address those needs by providing a flexible transit service with expanded hours to get people where they want to go within the zone, when they need to get there.”
