Des Moines Area Regional Transit Authority will be offering free rides Nov. 20-26 in recognition of the 10th anniversary of DART Central Station. DART Central Station opened in the fall of 2012, replacing the Walnut Street Transit Mall. Officials with DART say the opening of DART Central Station was the beginning of a new era of public transit in Des Moines, and helped launch a period of redesign and route expansion. “Since November of 2012, DART Central Station has served as the hub of our transit network and a symbol of DART’s commitment to providing affordable, seamless mobility options for all,” DART Chief External Affairs Officer Erin Hockman said in a release. Free rides on DART will be offered all week next week on DART Local and Express routes, On Call services and on DART on Demand.
