Davenport gets dangerous smoke from fireworks
For the second time in seven years, Davenport had a brief air-quality problem related to its fireworks display over the weekend, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources reported. Smoke from the display got caught in stagnant air and led to high levels of small particulates that can be dangerous for asthmatics and others with lung problems. The stagnant air trapped the smoke, as it had in 2008. Levels quickly dropped to safe levels. The DNR had recommended that people with lung problems watch fireworks at a distance statewide.
