Caregiven’s CEO and founder Candice Smith will be joining the Delta Dental team, the company announced in a news release.
According to the release, Caregiven is a comprehensive care support app designed to help caregivers as they navigate care for an aging or ailing adult. Delta Dental will incorporate the app into its product portfolio, the release stated.
Smith said she founded Caregiven after her experience caring for her father when he was dying.
“Being a caregiver is one of the most overwhelming, isolating and expensive experiences that we all will go through,” she said in the release. “There is both an abundance of anecdotes and advice and an absence of digital support tools to empower families to choose the path that’s right for them.”
According to the release, with nearly 50% of Americans providing or receiving care, there is demand for an app such as Caregiven. Caregivers spend an estimated 45 hours a week caring for another adult, in addition to working and balancing their own lives. Caregiven can provide resources to help caregivers manage their time, the release stated.
In her role with Delta Dental, Smith will work with organizations to offer services and resources for Iowa caregivers. Caregiven will also be expanded to be offered to employers as an employee benefit.
Jeff Russell, president and CEO of Delta Dental of Iowa, said Caregiven is aligned with Delta Dental’s wellness culture and its core business of employee benefits.
“Over the last year, we have placed more focus on the holistic wellness of our team members, moving beyond physical wellness to incorporate emotional, financial, career and community wellness,” he said in the release. “In a competitive job market, employers need to offer benefits that meet the needs of employees across multiple generations.”
