The president of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaci, was given a DMACC cap presented by Rob Denson, president of Des Moines Area Community College. Denson is visiting Kosovo this week as part of an Iowa Sister States contingent. Denson and Scott Ocken, DMACC vice president of academic affairs, are providing counsel and expertise on creating a new career academy in Kosovo dedicated to offering vocational degrees. Some of the programs being considered are applied engineering, electrical engineering, tool and die, computer-aided design, agriculture, and other industrial curricula. The visit is part of an ongoing collaboration between DMACC and the Republic of Kosovo. DMACC is currently hosting 25 female leaders from Kosovo who are training under a scholarship program for careers in Kosovo’s expanding energy sector.
