Des Moines Christian plans high school campus in Urbandale

Des Moines Christian School, which has a campus at 13007 Douglas Parkway in Urbandale, plans on developing a high school campus about one mile to the north along Northwest 42nd Avenue, the Business Record has learned.

Des Moines Christian School Association has acquired just over 100 acres at 13577 N.W. 42nd Ave., Polk County real estate records show. The association paid Dale and Mary Beth Day $6.8 million for the property, which is mostly farmland. A portion of the property includes a single-family house and farm-related buildings.

A spokesperson for the private school, which serves elementary through high school students, wrote in an email that a high school campus will be built on the land. “Master site planning is underway for both our current campus and our future high school campus,” Jessica Brown, director of marketing and communications, wrote.

Des Moines Christian School began in 1948 with 14 students, according to its website. In 1980, it moved into the former Franklin Junior High School in Des Moines, sharing facilities with First Federated Church. In 2005, the school relocated to its current 26-acre campus in Urbandale. The school’s enrollment totals over 1,200 students. It had 89 high school graduates in 2023, according to the school’s annual report.

The real estate transaction was recorded May 6.

Walnut Ridge Properties LLC, located in Johnston, paid NPJTC LLC and Lainson Properties 1031 LLC $1.4 million for property at 5408 N.W. 88th St. in Johnston, records show. The property includes a 7,986-square-foot office building constructed in 2000. The property is valued at $1 million. The transaction was recorded May 6.

Calico Commercial LLC,
 located in Deerfield, Ill., paid Cardinal Green Investments LLC $4.1 million for property at 4415 Douglas Ave. in Des Moines, records show. The 2.2-acre parcel includes a 17,900-square-foot building occupied by Walgreens. The building was constructed in 1997. The property is valued at $2.7 million. The transaction was recorded May 5.

Dallas County
Paul and Angela DeYarman paid Susan Koch $2.3 million for property at 34804 Maffitt Lake Road in Cumming, Dallas County records show. The 5-acre parcel includes a 2,529-square-foot house built in 2006. The transaction was recorded May 9.
