Des Moines companies among best workplaces for women

Two Central Iowa companies were recently named among Fortune’s Best Workplaces for Women. 

On the list was West Des Moines-based ITA Group, which ranked No. 14 on this year’s Best Workplaces for Women list.

The 2018 rankings are based on employee surveys analyzed by Great Place to Work, a global people analytics and consulting firm focusing on workplace culture. The surveys are conducted in partnership with Fortune. 

To determine Best Workplaces for Women rankings, the firm analyzed survey feedback representing more than 4.5 million U.S. employees. The majority of the ranking is based on what women reported in a survey about their workplace and how fairly those experiences compared to other genders at the same workplaces.

According to the survey, 44 percent of executives at ITA Group are female. Women make up 62 percent of mid-level managers and 66 percent of frontline managers or supervisors. The company offers flexible scheduling, compressed workweeks, a telecommuting option and paid sick leave to care for children or relatives, among other benefits.

Also included on the 2018 list is Des Moines-based BH Management Services, which came in No. 34 on the list. According to the survey, 86 percent of BH Management’s executive leadership team is comprised of women, in addition to 79 percent of mid-level managers and 60 percent of frontline managers or supervisors. The company offers employees 120 hours of paid time off in their first year of employment, a telecommuting option and paid sick leave to care for children or relatives, among other benefits.
