Muncie Aviation Co., based in Muncie, Ind., announced it has acquired Des Moines Flying Service, a general aviation sales and service company that has operated in Des Moines for more than eight decades. Terms of the transaction, which was completed on Jan. 1, were not disclosed. BCC Advisers of Des Moines assisted with the transaction. The deal merges two of the longest-standing business and general aviation sales and service centers, Muncie Aviation said in a release. “We would like to thank Don Jay and John Lowe of Des Moines Flying Service for making this win-win acquisition possible,” said Steve Thompson, Muncie Aviation executive vice president and acting president of DMFS. Both former owners have retired, he said, but the company plans to retain all of DMFS’s staff of about 28. “We look forward to taking our common values and business drives and expanding on DMFS’s already considerable abilities.” Martin Ingram, CEO and sales manager of Muncie Aviation, steps into the chairman role at DMFS. Des Moines Flying Service, established in 1939, is an authorized HondaJet dealer and has been an authorized Piper Aircraft dealer for more than 75 years. Muncie Aviation bills itself as the longest-ranking Piper dealer in the world, since 1936. Founded by Edmund F. Ball, one of the sons of the original Ball Brothers of Ball glass jar fame, Muncie Aviation was in the Ball family for 73 years before becoming an employee-owned company in 2004.
