Des Moines Parks and Recreation announces Volunteer Award winners

The Des Moines Parks and Recreation Department announced winners of the 2022 Volunteer Awards at a meeting Tuesday. The awards recognize volunteers and community leaders for their commitment and service to the department. The Lifetime Achievement Award was given to Bill and Pam Thompson, Volunteer of the Year was awarded to Beth Steven, Corporate Group of the Year was awarded to MidAmerican Energy Co., and the Volunteer Group of the Year was awarded to Friends of Des Moines Parks. Other award recipients include Karen Stiles and Michael Schaffer (Friend of the Year), Ronald Mells (Coach of the Year), Jason Fiscel (Volunteer Supervisor of the Year), and Justin Einerson (Special Volunteer Award). Despite the ongoing pandemic, 4,442 volunteers donated 28,816 hours of service valued at over $903,000 in 2022.
