Four local historic rehabilitation projects have qualified for $17 million of the $32.7 million in income tax credits available from a state program for the 2016 and 2017 fiscal years, according to the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs. The State Historic Preservation and Cultural & Entertainment District Tax Credit program provides an income tax credit of up to 25 percent of qualified rehabilitation costs for the preservation of historic buildings that are on or eligible for the National Register of Historic Places. Total awards announced today include slightly more than $14 million in tax credits that had been allocated in previous years but had gone unused for a variety of reasons.
