The Des Moines Public Library now has five candidates for its director position, including two new candidates to replace one taken off the original list. DMPL Deputy Director Linda Roe said one of the candidates on the original list released last week, Mary Ellen Icaza, removed her name from consideration after receiving a job offer from another library. The Des Moines library board subsequently approved adding two more candidates, she said. “The consultant and the board just wanted to make sure there was a well-rounded group of candidates,” she said. In total, 25 people applied for the director position, Roe said. The two additional director candidates are Sheila Schofer, director of neighborhood services for the Brooklyn Public Library in Brooklyn, N.Y., and Sarah Sugden, director of the Waterville Public Library in Waterville, Maine. Icaza, who came off the list, is an assistant director for Montgomery County Public Libraries in Rockville, Md. A public forum to meet the candidates will be held Wednesday at the Central Library from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
