Des Moines residents’ income rises through recession

Total personal income in Polk County grew by 16.45 percent between 2006 and 2011, according to numbers from the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis compiled by Bizjournals.com.

Total 2011 personal income, defined as the amount of money earned by all residents of a given area in a given year, was $19.8 billion. The increase was No. 200 out of 455 U.S. counties examined  with a total personal income of more than $5 billion. Johnson County, Scott County and Linn County all had growth of between 24 and 28 percent.
