Des Moines Streetstyle Open returns for second year
The second annual Des Moines Streetstyle Open skateboard contest is scheduled for Sept. 22-24, Skate DSM announced. According to a news release, the contest is modeled after what is known as the best international skate competition, the Copenhagen Open. It will begin at the Lauridsen Skatepark and then move to other skate spots throughout the Des Moines metro area. It will feature some of the best skaters from around the world, from the Midwest and locally. Norm Sterzenbach, president of Skate DSM, said that with the opening of the Lauridsen Skatepark last year, the debut of the sport in the Olympics and two Dew Tours, the city is ready to host another event that will showcase the city and the local skateboarding culture.
