Des Moines to develop first comprehensive housing strategy
The city of Des Moines has announced it is developing its first Citywide Housing Strategy in a step to address housing challenges. Partnering with CZB LLC, a national housing and planning consultancy, and a 17-member committee representing the housing, development, historic preservation and nonprofit sectors, the city will examine housing market conditions, affordability challenges, the city’s competitive position in the region and resource constraints affecting housing in the development of the strategy. According to a news release, the strategy aims to provide a roadmap for addressing housing needs and create a “balanced distribution of housing” that aligns with the city’s long-term goals, including those outlined in the PlanDSM Comprehensive Plan, Statement of Housing Needs and neighborhood revitalization strategies. The city is asking residents to respond to a survey to share their feedback and perspectives on housing issues. To take the survey, click here.
