Des Moines has been selected to host the 2025 National Speech & Debate Tournament for the second year in a row. The National Speech & Debate Association (NSDA), headquartered in West Des Moines, is celebrating its 100th year with its annual tournament from June 15 to 20. The event is expected to attract more than 10,000 visitors to the city, according to a news release. Catch Des Moines estimated an economic impact of more than $22 million from last year’s event. The NSDA will use event spaces at the Iowa Events Center, Des Moines Public Schools, West Des Moines Schools and Waukee Schools. “Hosting an event of this magnitude and stature two years in a row is twice as nice,” Catch Des Moines President and CEO Greg Edwards said in a prepared statement. “This is a huge deal for our entire region, and to host the centennial year right here in the association’s backyard makes it extra special.”
