Des Moines Water Works gains energy savings certification
Des Moines Water Works recently gained recognition of energy savings at the Fleur Drive plant, including certification to the ISO 50001 standards and Superior Energy Performance program. Water Works officials said they don’t know of another U.S. plant that has achieved the certification. The plant improved its energy performance by 2.7 percent in a year. In 2016, the utility, which serves nearly 500,000 customers in Central Iowa, set a goal to increase energy efficiency by 25 percent across the utility by 2026. The certifications add the energy performance goals to normal business procedures.
