Des Moines Area Community College today announced it will offer an online certificate class in AI skills. The community college is partnering with the Intel AI for Workforce Program, which is designed to help students build AI skills that employers are incorporating into their businesses, according to a news release. The non-credit introductory course starts Oct. 14 and runs for nine weeks. DMACC plans to work with the Iowa Department of Education to potentially expand the DMACC program for fall 2025 with the addition of an associate degree in AI. “AI is already integrated into many facets of our lives, and employers across a variety of industries, including data science, health care, automotive, industrial, manufacturing, agriculture and more, report that they are already using AI or plan to do so soon,” DMACC President Rob Denson said in a prepared statement. “Our goal is to help our students build the skills they need to flourish in the growing field of artificial intelligence and to give Iowa companies a competitive edge.” Anne Power, DMACC’s executive academic dean for business and information technology, will oversee the Intel AI for Workforce Program. Intel launched the program in 2020 through partnerships with government and community colleges. As of fall 2024, 60 colleges across the U.S. have joined the program.
