Des Moines Area Community College announced that it has hired Bill Blunck as operations director for Trail Point Aquatics and Wellness, a student and public recreation center under construction on its main campus in Ankeny. Blunck most recently was executive director of the YMCA of Greater Kansas City, where he assisted with the launch of four YMCA facilities. He began his career in recreation services at Iowa State University and was involved in the opening of Ankeny’s first Prairie Ridge Aquatic Center. He has since held a variety of roles with the YMCA of Greater Kansas City, including membership director, aquatics director and multiple roles within membership services. Scheduled to open in early 2017, Trail Point Aquatics and Wellness will feature an eight-lane competition swimming pool and a family pool along with gymnasiums, racquetball courts and cycling, exercise and strength training equipment.
