The downtown Des Moines Hy-Vee has begun closing its Long Island Deli, Mexican restaurant and smoothie bar to make room for a bigger pizza operation and added produce, said spokeswoman Amy McCoy. “That includes expanding our pizza area into a Mia Pizza, where customers can customize their fire-baked pizza selections, as well as expanding our bakery area to accommodate growth there. We’ll also make the produce area larger for a wider selection and ease of shopping, and add more of our popular self-checkout registers,” McCoy said. The Chinese, sushi, hot bar, and prepared meal offerings will continue, she added. McCoy said the changes come in part in response to customer requests.
