Drake University to expand Martin Bucksbaum Lectureship Series

Drake University has announced that public policy professional, author and equality advocate Heather McGhee will give the inaugural Bucksbaum Lectureship in Business on Nov. 1 at Sheslow Auditorium on the Drake campus. The lecture is an expansion of the university’s long-running Martin Bucksbaum Lectureship Series. The second lectureship track was made possible by an additional gift from Melva Bucksbaum and Mary Bucksbaum Scanlan, according to a news release. Managed through Drake’s Zimpleman College of Business, the new track addresses topics at the intersection of business and society. The late Martin and Melva Bucksbaum launched the lectureship series 30 years ago. Martin Bucksbaum was chairman and CEO of General Growth Properties and a member of Drake University’s governing board. The lectureship has featured figures including Maya Angelou, Earvin “Magic” Johnson and Bob Woodward. McGhee has crafted legislation, testified before Congress and helped shape presidential campaign platforms, according to the release. She is author of “The Sum of Us: What Racism Costs Us and How We Can Prosper Together.” McGhee’s lecture will begin at 7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. Attendees will need to register at Drake.edu/bucksbaum/business The lecture will also be live streamed at Live.Drake.edu.
