Our colleagues at dsm unveiled the new November-December issue on Monday, and one of the first articles to go to is “The Beat Goes On.” It follows the path of Des Moines Symphony Music Director Joseph Giunta, who is marking his 30th season with the orchestra in Des Moines.

Here’s a delightful excerpt from the piece told in his own words: “By age 14, I knew I wanted to be a conductor. The trigger was a Philadelphia Orchestra performance conducted by Eugene Ormandy. There was no question that’s what I wanted to do. I don’t know why that happened, but I remember feeling overwhelming joy.”

You can find the entire issue here, including wonderful photos, video and stories on the Sages Over 70. The 2018 class will be recognized Nov. 8.
