The Wilmington, Del.-based agricultural company to be spun off in a merger of Dow Chemical Co. and DuPont will be called Corteva Agriscience and will include what now is DuPont Pioneer, based in Johnston, DowDuPont announced today.

Pioneer will remain as a brand, selling seed corn and other agricultural products.

Corteva, pronounced kohr-`teh-vah, is a combination of words meaning “heart” and “nature,” DowDuPont reported.

James C. Collins Jr., chief operating officer of the agriculture division of DowDuPont, said the “new name reflects our commitment to enhancing their productivity as well as the health and well-being of the consumers.” He expects the spinoff ag company to be an “unparalleled innovation engine.”

The ag company is expected to split off from DowDuPont by June 1, 2019, as will a special products division. A materials science division is expected to be spun off by the first quarter of 2019, DowDuPont reported.
