DuPont sets global food security goals
E.I. du Pont de Nemours and Co., parent company of Pioneer Hi-Bred International Inc., announced yesterday that by 2020 it will invest $10 billion in research and development and introduce 4,000 new products centered on increasing food production, nutrition and sustainability as part of a commitment to improving global food security.
The Delaware-based company also pledged to facilitate educational opportunities for 2 million engagements with young people worldwide, and provide targeted collaboration and investments to improve the livelihoods of at least 3 million farmers and their rural communities.
“No one company, country or nonprofit organization can meet the challenge of feeding the world alone,” said Ellen Kullman, DuPont chair and CEO.
“But each of us can commit to doing our part and hold ourselves accountable to make a meaningful contribution to this global challenge. Establishing specific, measurable goals for what we can do to address that challenge is key to turning talk into results.”
