EMBARC, partners now offer Count the Kicks translations for Burma community
Data shows that Asian and Pacific Islander birthing parents in Iowa experience stillbirths at a rate of 5.4 deaths per 1,000 live births, compared with white birthing parents at a rate of 4.0 deaths per 1,000 live births. A partnership among Healthy Birth Day Inc., International Paper, and Ethnic Minorities of Burma Advocacy and Resource Center (EMBARC) are hoping to change that. The three organizations are working together to offer translated materials for Count the Kicks, Healthy Birth Day Inc.’s stillbirth prevention campaign that emphasizes the importance of counting their baby’s kicks every day in the third trimester of their pregnancy. Beginning last November, Count the Kicks and EMBARC have educated about 200 birthing parents about the initiative, and are hoping to expand outreach to more families this year, particularly those who speak in Burmese and Karen dialects. Count the Kicks educational videos are available in a variety of languages on EMBARC’s YouTube channel.
