EMC awards $35K grant to Oakridge for digital workforce training

EMC Insurance Companies has awarded a $35,000 grant to Oakridge Neighborhood to help fund the agency’s digital workforce training program. Oakridge Neighborhood’s Family and Workforce programs served more than 2,6000 people in the past year, placing 150 people in jobs and preparing another 260 for employment, according to a news release. More than 80% of the job placements paid more than $15 an hour with a benefit package. Oakridge Neighborhood is one of Des Moines’ most diverse neighborhoods, with 66% of its residents being immigrants and refugees from more than 23 countries and speaking more than 29 languages. It provides services ranging from child care and preschool and after school programs, workforce readiness, financial literacy, parenting, citizenship and driver’s education.
