EMC Insurance Group Inc. had operating income of $6.6 million, or 32 cents per share, in the second quarter, compared with an operating loss of $509,000, or 3 cents per share, for the second quarter of 2014, the company said today. For the six months ended June 30, EMC reported operating income of $26.4 million, or $1.29 per share, up from $9.3 million, or 46 cents per share, for the year-ago period. Net income, including realized investment gains and losses, totaled $8.7 million, or 42 cents per share, for the just-completed quarter, compared with $1 million, or 5 cents per share, for the second quarter of 2014. For the first six months, the company reported net income of $29.1 million, or $1.42 per share, up from $11.6 million, or 58 cents per share, for the same period in 2014.
