More than 4,100 Iowans will receive “fast-track” apprenticeship training and job placement assistance in energy-sector jobs through a 36-month program, Gov. Chet Culver announced Tuesday. The State Energy Sector Partnership Board has awarded $5.7 million in grants to 13 projects in targeted industries including wind and solar, biofuels, energy-efficient construction and manufacturing of energy-efficient products. The grant recipient programs will focus on training Iowa workers to meet the demands of Iowa’s renewable energy industry.
