Event Oct. 13: Drake presentation: How food recovery can end hunger

Social entrepreneur Ben Simon will present “Waste Not, Want Not: How Food Recovery Can End Hunger in the 21st Century” at Drake University on Tuesday, Oct. 13. This presentation is open to the public and will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Sussman Theater at the Olmsted Center. Simon, a leader in food waste recovery and a Forbes 30 Under 30 Social Entrepreneur, will share his experience founding the Food Recovery Network in 2011 while he was a student at the University of Maryland. Under Simon’s leadership, the Food Recovery Network became the largest student movement against hunger, with chapters at more than 150 colleges. U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack and Environmental Protection Agency Deputy Administrator Stan Meiburgrecently announced the first-ever national food waste reduction goal, calling for a 50 percent reduction by 2030.
