Event Sept. 23: DNR to study Des Moines River fish

The public is invited to join staff members from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources as they capture fish from the Des Moines River to show people the variety of species living in the water. DNR staff members also will speak about how people affect the fish and native mussels. The event is free and runs 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 23, at Riverwalk Hub, 215 Water St., Des Moines.  Chef Michael LaValle and Trellis Catering will provide fish appetizers. The Des Moines Area Metropolitan Planning Organization is developing a water trails master plan for approximately 150 miles of creeks and rivers in the region; this event is part of that work. Read more
