Expect higher egg prices in 2015

WHO-13: A new law in California may lead to higher food prices here in Iowa. The law requires egg producers to house hens in cages large enough that they can spread their wings. Egg farmers in Iowa, Ohio and other states will have to abide by the California law if they want to sell eggs there. So they’ll have to spend thousands, even millions, of dollars revamping henhouses. And because the hens won’t be as close together, heating systems will have to be installed in colder climates like the Midwest. That’s a cost that will be passed on to consumers around the country.
